The field was built from Netflix's own Malaysian pages, fetched from a Malaysian connection: first every Chinese, Taiwanese, Singaporean, Malaysian and Hong Kong title in JustWatch's Malaysian Netflix list, then every related title Netflix recommends from those pages, until no new Mandarin title appeared. That second step found 67 Mandarin titles JustWatch did not list, including On Children and Dead Talents Society, which are both in the top 20. A title neither source surfaces could still be missing. Critics and awards are an anchored judgement from recorded awards: a top prize at the Golden Horse, Golden Bell, Golden Rooster, Magnolia or a major festival, with further major wins, scores 95; a nomination for a top prize or a single major win scores 75; no critical record scores 45. Popularity awards count for nothing. Audience is a formula: each rating out of ten becomes (rating − 5) × 20, averaged across Douban (1,000 ratings or more) and IMDb (500 votes or more). Time and recency are formulas on total hours and on days since first release anywhere, festival screenings excluded. A series with several seasons is measured as Netflix carries it: every season's hours, and every season's Douban rating weighted by its count. Every entry's arithmetic is in its score row. Several Taiwanese titles here also use Taiwanese Hokkien, among them A Sun, The Falls, Shards of Her and Marry My Dead Body; four titles whose original track is Hokkien are outside the field. Mainland films have not competed at the Golden Horse since China's 2019 boycott, which tilts the awards criterion toward Taiwanese titles; mainland titles reach its top tiers through the Golden Rooster and Magnolia instead.
